Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that forward Robert Flynn has agreed to terms for the 2006-2007 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 6' 2", 220-pound native of Canton, MA will be entering his second professional season, his first with the Ice Dogs. The 23-year-old Harvard Crimson graduate played the majority of last season with the San Diego Gulls playing in 36 regular season games, recording 8 goals, 5 assists, 13 points and 35 penalty minutes. Flynn was third on the Gulls with five fighting major penalties. Rob dressed in all four playoff games for the Gulls and was scoreless. Flynn also played with the Knoxville Ice Bears (SPHL) last season and had 12 points in 11 games along with 34 PIMs. He also suited up for one game with the Danbury Thrashers (UHL) and was held scoreless.
A former 9th Round Draft pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers, Flynn played his collegiate hockey for the Harvard Crimson in the ECAC. Rob played in 106 games for Harvard, recording 22 points (11-11) and 62 PIMs. While at Harvard, Flynn was the Director of Crimson City Hockey Clinic, which provides hockey instruction at no cost to youth in Greater Boston and makes discounted equipment available. Before Harvard, he skated with the US Jr. National Team and had 9 points in 24 games.
"At this point of time, Flynn adds the size element that we are starting to add to the roster," said Head Coach and General Manager Rick Adduono. "Rob knows how to play at both ends of the ice. I am looking forward to Rob displaying his special assets he brings to the table. He is very good taking the puck from the corners and driving towards the net."
"I loved playing in Long Beach last season with the Gulls," said Flynn. "The smaller ice surface really compliments my style of play. I am a power forward that likes to crash the net, bang bodies, and stick up for my teammates. I am excited to get my second professional season started with the Ice Dogs."
Opening night is Friday, October 20th, versus the Idaho Steelheads at 7:30 PM. Season tickets for the 2006-07 season are on sale now, and can be secured by depositing just $100 per seat. Call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
