Harry "Bud" Grant added to Hall of Fame guest list

July 23, 2009 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

Don't miss your chance to witness the long-delayed presentation of a Canadian Football Hall of Fame Jacket to CFL and NFL football legend Bud Grant. The special presentation will be made during this year's Canadian Football Hall of Fame Gala in Winnipeg, September 25, and will come 26 years after his induction in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, and forty-three years after coaching his last CFL game. Due to coaching responsibilities in the NFL, Grant was not able to make his induction to the Hall of Fame in 1983.

Grant was inducted under the "Builder" category for a 14 year CFL career that spanned both playing and coaching responsibilities, and included seven Grey Cup appearances and four Grey Cup rings. A two-way player, he played both offence and defense for the Blue Bombers for four seasons during which he was the West's leading pass receiver in three of those years. On defense, he also earned the record for the most interceptions in a game (five) in a play-off game against Saskatchewan in 1953, a record that still stands in both the CFL and the NFL.

In 1957, Grant became head coach of the Bombers and immediately took them to the Grey Cup that year, plus five more times in the following nine years. In his 10 years as Winnipeg's head coach, he led the team to four Grey Cup victories and an impressive 64% winning percentage.

Tickets for the Canadian Football Hall of Fame Induction Gala are available online at www.bluebombers.com.
