HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 13, 2014 - The Harrisburg Heat suffered a pair of losses this weekend - 9-8 on Saturday at Cincinnati and 12-6 Sunday in Detroit - that damaged their playoff hopes in their second season in the Professional Arena Soccer League.
The Heat (now 3-7 in the PASL and 5-7 overall) dropped one game behind Cincinnati (4-6) for fourth place in the Eastern Division and 2.5
games behind Detroit (6-5) for the East's third and final guaranteed playoff spot with six games left in Harrisburg's season.
The Heat get a chance to close the gap this weekend with a home game against Cincinnati at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Equine Arena before playing their final two home games against undefeated Chicago (9-0) on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24 and 25. Both of those games also begin at 7:05 p.m.
After that, the Heat finish the regular season on the road with back-to-back games Feb. 8-9 at last-place Illinois and first-place Chicago, and Feb. 16 at Dallas.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
The Heat will hold two training sessions this week - Tuesday and Thursday at Sports City Harrisburg.
Both sessions run from 9:30-11:30 p.m.
HALL PASS
Chris Hall, the high-scoring forward from Lebanon Valley College signed last week by the Heat, scored a goal in each of his first two pro games over the weekend.
MELLOR TIME
Forward Tom Mellor, the second-year indoor pro out of Manchester, England, tied his own single-game franchise record for points when he totaled six on two goals and four assists in Saturday's 9-8 loss at Cincinnati.
Mellor leads the Heat with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists.
