HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 24, 2013 - The Harrisburg Heat are coming off one week in which they won two of three games and are approaching another busy weekend in which they have two games and another Open Cup match.
The Heat - after beating ReAL Harrisburg FC and Detroit before losing in Cleveland over the weekend - will play the New Jersey Dynamo in a non-league game Friday and the Cleveland Freeze in an Open Cup match Saturday.
Kickoff is 7:05 p.m. for both games at the Equine Arena of the State Farm Show Complex & Expo Center.
The Heat previously played the Dynamo in the preseason, beating them 17-0 at Sports City Harrisburg.
Saturday's game against Cleveland is both a league match against the Freeze (6-3) in the Professional Arena Soccer League and a semifinal Open Cup match for the Heat (4-4 overall, 3-4 in the PASL). The Heat moved into the semifinals with a 9-3 victory over ReAL Harrisburg last Thursday at Sports City.
The Heat expect to have leading scorer Tom Mellor and captain David Schofield in the lineup after both sat out Sunday's 12-4 loss at Cleveland with minor injuries.
IT'S MELLOR TIME
Heat forward Tom Mellor is coming off a franchise-record, five-goal game in Saturday's 9-8 victory over Detroit at the Equine Arena. The game was Mellor's second of the season with at least three goals and fifth in 19 games during his season-plus with the Heat. Mellor also had an assist against Detroit, giving him six points for the night and tying his own single-game team record that he set last season shares with former Heat defender Christopher Williams.
FAMILIAR FACE
Forward Allen Eller, a member of the original Heat franchise, is Cleveland's top scorer with 31 points on 20 goals and 11 assists.
FREE STUFF
Friday's promotional giveaway is free ice scrapers to the first 500 adult fans, courtesy of PSECU. On Saturday, the first 500 kids will receive a flying disc, courtesy of Belco Credit Union. The Jersey Disc Devil Dogs also will be performing at halftime Saturday.
