CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston RiverDogs Assistant General Manager Harold Craw has accepted the position as the new General Manager of the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Midwest League. Craw becomes the first African-American General Manager in the Midwest League and the only African-American General Manager currently in Minor League Baseball.

Craw joins the River Bandits, Class-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, after 10 seasons in sales and operations with the RiverDogs. He was the South Atlantic League's 2008 Sales Executive of the Year and 2009 Community Relations Director of the Year.

"Harold has been my muse," said RiverDogs President Mike Veeck. "He's been a huge asset to our operation in Charleston, and it's time we share him with the world. Larry Doby would be proud."

"I am thrilled for Harold and his family," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "Harold has had a tremendous impact on our organization and the community here in Charleston for the past decade. While he will be missed, it is certainly a well-deserved and earned opportunity. The RiverDogs wish the best of luck to the entire Craw family."

Craw, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Emory and Henry College in 1999 and his master's degree in sport leisure and management from East Tennessee State University in 2001. He was a physical education and wellness teacher before starting his career in minor league baseball in 2002 as the director of stadium operations for the Johnson City (Tenn.) Cardinals of the Appalachian League. That same year he was the facility director for the 2002 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Craw's community involvement in Charleston includes co-founding and co-chairing the Charleston RBI Baseball League. He served on the Charleston Air Force Base Honorary Commanders' Advisory Board and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Military Relations' Committee. He has been an active volunteer serving youth in the Charleston area over the past decade.

"I want to thank Dave Heller and Main Street Baseball for the opportunity to join an organization that exemplifies Minor League Baseball, and work in Modern Woodmen Park, one of the best stadiums in baseball," Craw said. "I only have fond memories of my decade with the RiverDogs, and I'm forever grateful to the Goldklang Group and everyone in Charleston for making the past 10 years so great."

Craw and his wife, Angie, have two daughters - Cameron, 5, and Jasmine, 14 months - and a dog, Titan.

Craw succeeds Stefanie Brown as General Manager of the River Bandits, who last season welcomed their highest single-season attendance since 1995. Brown, a three-time Midwest League Female Executive of the Year entering her sixth season with the organization, is now the Executive Director of Modern Woodmen Park. She is the only female in such a role in the Midwest League.
