HarbourCats Claw Back, But Fall to BlueJackets -- Fan Appreciation on Sunday
August 10, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
Hunter Mercado-Hood's perfect day at the plate, 3-3 to raise his average to .383, wasn't enough on Saturday as the Victoria HarbourCats dropped their second-straight home game to the Kitsap BlueJackets, falling 9-6 in front of 2,592 at Sports Traders Diamond.
John Grimsley was 2-2, and Alan Baldwin and Ted Boeke had a pair of hits each, but a four-run inning by Kitsap put the HarbourCats in a hole they could not recover from. Victoria starting pitcher Andrew Nelson took a bit of a beating, giving up nine runs, all earned, on 12 hits and three walks, while striking out one in five innings. Drew Davidoff made his HarbourCats debut and the soft-tossing side-arm pitcher from the PBL Eagles slopped his way to a two-hit, two-walk, one-strikeout effort over four innings.
The HarbourCats were outhit 14-13, and Kitsap made two errors, one more than Victoria.
The HarbourCats lead the West Coast League in attendance with an average of 1,562 per game.
After the BlueJackets punched up four in the first inning, they put up two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth, then held on. The HarbourCats scored twice in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
The HarbourCats fall to 24-29 on the season, and will get one more chance to add to the win total on Sunday at 1pm, on Pure Day Spa Fan Appreciation Night and CHEK Getaway Days Finale, sponsored by Clipper Vacations, LA Limousines and Best Western Executive Suites in Seattle. The winner of the grand prize of the trip to Seattle will be announced, with the winners going directly to the Clipper Ferry.
It's the last chance to see the HarbourCats, who will not be in the playoffs, play in 2014. Season tickets are still available for 2014 prices until the end of August.
To get tickets for the final home game, visit the team office (1814 Vancouver Street), go to the gate, or buy on-line at www.harbourcats.com/tickets.
