Miller Not Returning for 2015, Coach Search On

August 10, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria HarbourCats will have a new head coach in place when the 2015 West Coast League season begins next June.

Bob Miller, the Co-Head Coach with Dennis Rogers in the team`s inaugural season who took over as Head Coach for 2014, will not be returning to Victoria. Priorities with his college baseball program at Cuesta College led to the decision to inform the HarbourCats he will not sign a contract for the 2015 season.

"It has been an honour to be part of the formative years of the Victoria HarbourCats, and I want to thank owner John McLean and everyone in the organization for the support these two years," said Miller.

"It takes a lot of work to recruit and coach at this level, because the West Coast League is becoming a place where the best collegiate baseball players choose to develop in the summer. The baseball program at Cuesta College needs my full attention, and that means year-round. It is hard to leave Victoria because this is a tremendous location, with great fans and a top-notch organization from top to bottom."

"Both Bob and Dennis have helped make this a destination for college baseball players from the best programs, and we thank them for that," said McLean. "As a new franchise in 2013, we needed that expertise to get us off the ground and the feedback from fans is they have enjoyed the calibre of play and now are expecting us to take the next steps. That is our goal, to find a new Head Coach who can continue to recruit and develop players. We want to see players come here and improve in a winning environment, so they can take steps forward at the college level and then into professional baseball."

"The search for a new Head Coach is underway and John and I hope to announce a new Head Coach quickly as recruitment of players for the 2015 season has already begun. Local Assistant Coach Charlie Strandlund will continue to help us complete our youth camps series into the fall," said General Manager Jim Swanson.
