Victoria HabourCats News Release
Charity Announcement
New Community Partners The following charities will be designated as "Official Community Partners" of the Victoria HarbourCats during our 2013 Inaugural Season. Sunday, July 7 will be the next charity night when the HarbourCats will be raising funds for the Children's Wish Foundation during their game against the Kelowna Falcons.
Heart and Stroke Foundation The HarbourCats are thrilled to have partnered with The Heart and Stroke Foundation, which is one of Canada's largest and most effective health charities. June 13 at Royal Athletic Park was Baseball for Heart Night when the Heart and Stroke Foundation collected donations and informed fans at the game. Since beginning operations 60 years ago they have invested over a billion dollars towards heart and stroke research in Canada. The Heart and Stroke Foundation has proven that they are very effective with donations; in the 60 years since the foundation's inception the death rate from heart disease and stroke has declined by more than 75%. The HarbourCats will also be entering a team in the Heart and Stroke Foundation's annual Big Bike Fundraiser, fans will have the opportunity to bid on a chance to ride with the HarbourCats players during Baseball for Heart night.
Children's Wish
The HarbourCats are excited to have partnered with The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada; this foundation helps thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 who are diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses fulfill a dream. The HarbourCats are looking forward to having a Children's Wish Foundation Game Night at the ballpark where volunteers will be available to collect donations throughout the game against the Kelowna Falcons. The HarbourCats will also be available for wish fulfillment in the event that there are any wishes that the team is able to help with.
KidSport
The HarbourCats are working with KidSport Greater Victoria and Shields Harney Legal Counsel to present "K's for KidSport" at every HarbourCats home game this season. This initiative will see Shields Harney donate $50 to KidSport Greater Victoria per strikeout at home, up to a total donation of $5000! KidSport provides sport registration grants to under-privileged kids aged 5 to 18 years to help ensure that ALL kids have opportunity to participate in a season of sport. The HarbourCats are delighted to be able to support children engaging in sport in the Victoria community and believe that no child should have to sit on the sidelines due to financial restrictions. Fans will be able to donate throughout the season at HarbourCats games or through KidSport Greater Victoria's website at any time to help with this important cause.
CFAX Santa's Anonymous
The HarbourCats are happy to have partnered with CFAX Santa's Anonymous for a Christmas in July event at the HarbourCats afternoon home game on July 21 against the Wenatchee Applesox, with Santa Claus throwing out the first pitch. Fans will be able to come out and celebrate the Christmas season and spirit of giving at the baseball park where they will be able to donate to a storied Victorian cause. All donations to CFAX Santa's Anonymous go towards benefitting under-privileged families year-round in Greater Victoria.
Steve Nash Foundation
Saturday, July 27 will be "Steve Nash Foundation Night" at Royal Athletic Park with the HarbourCats taking on the Corvallis Knights. At the game, fans will also be able to make contributions to the Foundation, which will go towards assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life in British Columbia and beyond. HarbourCats fans that "make an assist" and donate during the game will receive children's Steve Nash Charity T-Shirts. The HarbourCats will also be giving away an autographed Steve Nash jersey at the game to a lucky fan.
