JUPITER, Fla. - Trailing by three runs in the ninth, Jupiter put up a four-spot-including a walk-off, two-run single off the bat of Ryan Goetz-to defeat Ft. Myers 5-4 Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Alex Burg led off the bottom of the ninth with a line drive single to center field. After a Ryan Rieger ground out, Austin Barnes, Austin Nola and Wilfredo Gimenez all singled to right field, scoring two and closing the gap to one.
LHP Corey Williams was subbed in for RHP Dakota Watts to face the left-handed hitting Goetz, who ripped a line drive into the gap in right field, scoring Nola and Gimenez to clinch the 5-4 win.
The walk-off hit was Goetz's second of the night, raising his season batting average to .231.
Goetz started the game at shortstop, but was moved to right field after Isaac Galloway was ejected in the fourth for arguing balls and strikes.
Galloway's ejection followed that of Hammerheads' manager Andy Haines, who was sent to the showers for arguing with home plate umpire Clay Park in the third.
Brent Keys and Burg each went 2-for-4 from the top two spots in the Jupiter lineup. Half of the Hammerheads' eight hits came in the ninth inning.
Eddie Rosario doubled and tripled for Ft. Myers, raising his season batting average to .351.
Teammate Jairo Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
RHP Jay Rogers held the Miracle to two earned runs on six hits and one walk in five innings. In six appearances (four starts) this season, Rogers has a 2.49 ERA in 25.1 innings.
RHP D.J. Baxendale held the Hammerheads to one unearned run on three hits and one walk in seven innings, striking out six. The outing lowered his ERA to 1.25, second-best among qualified starters in the Florida State League.
Sunday is a league-wide off day. The Hammerheads will travel to Tampa on Monday to begin a four-game set with the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field. RHP Jose Urena (4-1, 4.01 ERA) will start for Jupiter in Game 1.
