Hammerheads Complete Sweept of Mets

JUPITER, Fla. (August 15, 2015) - The Jupiter Hammerheads completed a three-game sweep of the St. Lucie Mets by winning the finale 4-3 on Saturday at Roger Dean Stadium.

The game featured three Major Leaguers for the Mets: David Wright, Steven Matz and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Matz, recovering from a left lat injury, pitched the first inning. He scattered three singles (two infield) and allowed one run while striking out two. Matz was scheduled to throw 25 pitches. He threw 23 with 18 going for strikes.

Wright played seven innings at third base. He went 0 for 3 with a walk and scored a run.

Nieuwenhuis played the entire game in right field. He went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts, a walk and a run scored. Matt Milroy struck Nieuwenhuis out looking to end the game with the tying run on first base.

The game was tied 3-3 in the seventh when Kelly Secrest entered and issued a leadoff walk to Austin Dean. Dean stole second base and scored on a two-out single by Harold Riggins to put the Hammerheads up 4-3.

Matt Oberste briefly put the Mets up 3-2 on a two-out RBI single in the fifth. That would be the final hit for the Mets. Only two more Mets reached base, both on walks.

Sam Alvis tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth to earn the win. Milroy issued a one-out walk but struck out the side in the ninth.

The Hammerheads outhit the Mets 12-4. Oberste went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a walk for the Mets.

Jupiter took a 1-0 lead in the first on Justin Bohn's RBI infield single.

The Mets took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Dominic Smith brought in Nieuwenhuis on an RBI single and Phil Evans put the Mets up on sac fly that plated Wright.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth Blake Barber crushed a ground rule double off of Miller Diaz. Rodrigo Vigil followed with an RBI single that tied the game.

Oberste's hit in the fifth put the Mets back in front, but Jupiter tied the game 3-3 in the home half of the inning when Avery Romero's ground out scored Dean from third.

The Mets (59-59, 24-24) have lost four in a row. They will hit the road to Bradenton on Sunday and play the Marauders at 5 p.m.
