Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - The Hammerheads rallied late, scoring three times in the eighth inning, but could not complete a comeback as they fell to Clearwater 7-4 on Thursday.

Trailing 7-1, Jupiter showed some life in the bottom of the eighth inning. Blake Barber and Ryan Goetz started the frame with walks off of Lino Martinez. After Martinez struck out Justin Bohn and got Colin Moran to fly out, Matt Juengel hit a liner into right to score Barber and make it 7-2. The Hammerheads would then load the bases when Viosergy Rosa walked, forcing the Threshers to call Ulises Joaquin out of the pen.

Avery Romero would welcome Joaquin to the game with a single to left to drive home a pair. A wild throw by the left fielder allowed Rosa to move to third while Romero scooted to second.

Jupiter would then load the bases again when Chad Wallach walked as Jesus Solorzano stepped to the plate as the go-ahead run. But Joaquin got Solorzano to ground out to short on the first pitch of the at bat and that would be the last scoring opportunity for the Hammerheads on the night.

The home team would take an early lead in the third when Barber doubled and scored on a single by Bohn to right.

Jupiter starter Matt Milroy did not allow a hit through the first three innings but things fell apart for the righty in the fourth.

The Threshers would load the bases on three straight singles to start the frame before Milroy struck out Brandon Short. Gabriel Lino would then give Clearwater the lead when he hit a bases-clearing double into the gap in right-center.

After Everett Williams reached on an infield single, Roman Quinn hit a double off the wall in center to plate a pair and make it 5-1 Clearwater. Angelo Mora would follow with a ground rule double to right to extend the Thresher lead to five runs.

Lino would later add a RBI single in the fifth off of Kyle Fischer to cap the scoring for Clearwater.

The Hammerhead bullpen would have a strong night as Fischer, Brad Mincey and Colby Suggs combined to allow just one run on five hits in five innings.

Romero's single in the eighth extended his hitting streak to nine games. He hit safely in every game he has played with Jupiter this season.

The Hammerheads and Threshers will continue the Battle of the Sharks series on Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
