Hammerheads Allow Two Big Innings, Fall 8-1

Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
The Hammerheads and Stone Crabs each tallied double-digit hit totals, but while Jupiter saw their offense spread thin, Charlotte did their damage in large bursts. Two 5-hit innings sank the Hammerheads in an 8-1 loss.
Eight Hammerheads starters recorded a hit, but they never seemed to come at the same time. Although Jupiter knocked 10 hits, they came over seven different innings. Seth Fortenberry's triple in the 4th inning set him up to score on Daniel Pertusati's groundout. Jake Smolinski laced a double to center field for Jupiter's other extra-base hit, and reached third on Fortenberry's second hit of the night. But Pertusati's line drive went right at right fielder Reid Fronk, who doubled Fortenberry up at first base.
While Jupiter did win the battle of extra-base hits, Charlotte showed that you can do quite a bit of damage with singles if you string enough of them together. In both the 3rd and 4th innings, the Stone Crabs got five hits, turning them into three runs in each frame. Designated hitter Henry Wrigley knocked RBI singles in each inning.
