Mets Top Marauders, 6-5

The St. Lucie Mets kicked off their post All-Star Game season off on the right foot Monday night at Digital Domain Park against the Bradenton Marauders. The 6-5 win puts the Mets at 29-30 on the season, six games behind the first place Charlotte Stone Crabs with only eight games remaining if the first half of the season.

Eric Beaulac toed the rubber for the Mets Monday night. Beaulac was coming off his last start in which he allowed only one run on two hits with six strikeouts and picked up right where he left off. After defensive miscues cost the Mets three unearned runs in the second inning, Beaulac settled down and gave his team the opportunity to battle back from the early 3-0 deficit. The Mets got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning plating two runs on RBI's off the bats of Josh Satin and Richard Lucas cutting the Marauders lead to 3-2 after four innings of play. The Mets took the lead in the fifth inning. Satin singled in two more runs and Sean Ratliff added an RBI single of his own making it a 5-3 game in favor of the Mets. The lead was short lived as Beaulac ran into trouble in the sixth inning yielding two runs in the frame evening the score 5-5. St. Lucie took the lead for good in the seventh inning. Stefan Welch singled in Emmanuel Garcia which ended up being the winning run.

Every St. Lucie Mets batter got a hit on the night. Welch and Ratliff led the way with two hits each with Welch driving in a run and scoring twice and Ratliff adding an RBI and run scored. Satin drove in three of the Mets six runs. Jose Bierd tossed the final two innings allowing only one hit and no runs to notch his fifth save of the season.

The Mets continue their series with the Bradenton Marauders Tuesday night at Digital Domain Park. Jeurys Familia gets the start for the Mets. Familia is looking for his first win of the 2010 campaign. Familia is 0-3 with a 6.46 ERA covering nine starts. He is second on the team with 40 strikeouts.
