Hall's Late Home Run Edges Vermont Past Valley, 5-4

MONTPELIER, VT- Trae Hall (Leonor City, TN/ Motlow State) sent a pitch deep into the Vermont night in the bottom of the 8th inning, giving Vermont a one run lead over Valley. That would be all they needed, as Vermont topped first place Valley 5-4.

Vermont wouldn't get off to hot start, as Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the first off Vermont starter Brian Herrmann (Northport,NY/ Stony Brook) on three hits. He settled down from there, going six inning, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out seven.

The Mountaineers answered with four in the bottom of the third. Doubles from Brett Malm (Medford, NY/ Adelphi) and Nate Grys (Sterling Heights, MI/ Western Michigan) gave Vermont the 4-3 lead.

Valley would tie the game in the top of the sixth, and it would remain tied at four until the bottom of the eighth. Hall would step in against reliever Donovan Benoit and send a homerun to left, his first of the year, giving Vermont the 5-4 lead.

That would be all Ryan Leckich would need, as he locked down his second save of the year. The win for Vermont win to Tyler Arella (East Northport, NY/ Villanova), who threw two scoreless innings out of the pen while striking out three. The loss for Valley went to Benoit, who threw two and two thirds inning, giving up the one run on three hits while striking out three.

Vermont (9-16) moves a game up on first place Valley (17-6), now sitting nine games back of them. The Mountaineers take the trip down to Holyoke Monday to once again face off with the Blue Sox, a makeup game from back on June 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240, or online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
