Hall Pitches Barnstormers To Win

Brooks Hall held the Long Island Ducks to a pair of solo homers over six innings on Thursday night, dealing the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 7-3 victory in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win advanced Lancaster's narrow lead over Sugar Land in the Freedom Division to 1 1/2 games. The Barnstormers have 14 games remaining in the first half while the Skeeters have 13.

Hall (4-2) yielded five hits and no walks while striking out five. Ducks left fielder Anthony Vega reached him for a leadoff home run in the top of the third. Right fielder Travis Snider connected with one out in the sixth.

Outside of those moments, Long Island had only one runner reach scoring position in Hall's six innings of work. The right-hander threw only 75 pitches before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Lancaster jumped on Matt Larkins (5-2) in the first inning. Darian Sandford led off with a single to center. He remained at first through two fly ball outs before stealing second. K.C. Hobson followed with his first home run as a Barnstormer in 2018 for a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, it was Vladimir Frias connecting with Trayvon Robinson at third to extend the lead to 4-1.

Robinson added an RBI single in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Sandford greeted reliever Ashur Tolliver with a single to left, scoring Frias with Lancaster's sixth run. Later that inning, Hobson was hit on the elbow guard with the bases loaded, giving him his third RBI of the night.

Emilio Bonifacio singled with two outs in the seventh to bring home the game's final run.

The clubs battle again on Friday evening. Lancaster will send Joe Gardner (3-3) to the mound against lefty Bennett Parry (3-0). Peppa Pig and George will be making an appearance, and hats will be given away while supplies last. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Blake Gailen extended his hitting streak to 11 with a double in the third...Scott Shuman extended his scoreless innings streak to 10.2...The Barnstormers clinched a winning record for the first half, their 12th winning half out of the last 15...Six different Barnstormers had two hits apiece in the game.
