Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Following doctor's orders, Kurt Haider, the "Voice of the Aces" will not travel to Colorado to announce the Aces first two games of the season. However, the 33-year broadcast veteran will still be involved in the broadcast.
"Every year I get a flu shot ahead of the hockey season for obvious reasons," said Haider. "This year I waited a bit too long, and sure enough the flu got me before I could get it. My doctor said I was asking for trouble if I got on a plane."
The show must go on, so here's what's happening.
Haider will be the "in-studio" host at KFQD, working with board operator Jacob Bickford for the Peanut Farm pre-game show, the B and B Automatic Transmission intermission reports, and the Coors Light post-game show.
Aces coach Rob Murray will call the studio after game to participate in the post-game show as always does.
The live play by play will be supplied by Eagles announcer Kevin McGlue and their flagship 107.9 the Bear in Loveland.
"Kevin does a great job, and we're thankful to be able to tap into their broadcast," added Haider. "This week has been a real challenge health-wise...I encourage you to get your flu shot today!
The Peanut Farm pre-game show starts at 4:50pm, with the live play by play both Friday and Saturday at 5:05pm on FM News 103.7 and on AM at 750 KFQD.
Alaska's home opener is Friday, October 28 at the Sullivan Arena against Rapid City.
