Mankato Habaneros News Release
MANKATO, MINN. - The Mankato Habaneros wrapped up their fourth consecutive matchup against the Madison Night Mares on Sunday night at ISG Field.
Madison struck first, scoring two runs in the opening inning before Mankato answered with a rally of their own.
Katy Olive (University of Miami-Ohio) delivered a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2, and Alexis Duke (Augustana College, Illinois) followed with an RBI single to give the Habaneros a 3-2 lead.
The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Night Mares responded in the second inning. Madison regained the lead with two runs scoring on wild pitches before Gretta Grassel (Mississippi State University) cleared the bases with a three-run double, extending the Night Mares' lead to 7-3. Madison added another run later in the inning to take an 8-3 advantage.
The Night Mares continued to build momentum in the third, erupting for seven runs to stretch their lead to 15-3. Neither team scored in the fourth inning.
Madison added one final run in the fifth to make it 16-3, securing the victory by the 10-run mercy rule after five innings.
The Habaneros return to action Monday when they travel to La Crosse to take on the Steam. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
