Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Lead: The Buffalo Bisons beat the Gwinnett Braves 6-3 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA to even the series at a game apiece. The G-Braves (33-39) took the early lead for the third consecutive game, but couldn't hold a 3-1 advantage as the Chiefs (37-35) tied it with a 4th-inning homer and took the lead on a long ball in the 5th frame. Gwinnett remains 9.5 games back in 3rd place in the International League South, trailing division leader Durham. Buffalo remains 4.5 games behind Syracuse in 3rd place in the North division at press time.
It Was Over When: G-Braves starter Jo-Jo Reyes got bit by the long ball. Reyes got burned by a game-tying 2-run bomb via Bisons first baseman Valentino Pascucci in the top of the 4th inning, only to yield another 3-run shot into the brick wall beyond the left field fence to center fielder Jorge Padilla in the 5th frame for a 6-3 Buffalo lead.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: LHP Reyes (1-5) went 5.0 IP, yielding 8 hits and 6 R/ER during his start. He also walked 2, gave up a pair of homers and struck out 5 batters. RHP Cory Gearrin came out of the bullpen to produce his third straight appearance of at least 2.0 IP and 2 K's (he went 2.0 with 3 K's tonight). RHP Scott Proctor made his first appearance since being called up from Myrtle Beach (A+) yesterday, pitching a scoreless frame.
At the plate: Right fielder Mitch Jones returned to the lineup in style after a 2-game rest, going 4-for-4 with an RBI. Catcher J.C. Boscan had his second straight game with an RBI, finishing 1-for-4 with 1 run knocked in. First baseman Freddie Freeman extended his season-long hitting streak to 11 games, putting in a 1-for-4 performance.
The opposition:
On the Mound: Buffalo starter, LHP Pat Misch (6-3), went 8.0 IP and allowed 3 R/ER on 10 hits. He struck out 3, gave up 1 HR and walked just 1 batter. RHP Manny Acosta picked up save number 2 on the year with a scoreless 9th inning.
At the plate: Padilla finished up 3-for-5 with a HR, 3 RBI and a stolen base, while Pascucci was 2-for-4 with a HR of his own and 2 RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett continues its four-game series against the Buffalo Bisons (New York Mets) in their only visit to Coolray Field this season, as first pitch for the series' third game is set for 7:05 p.m. The G-Braves will send RHP Todd Redmond (7-6, 4.18 ERA) to the hill against an undetermined starter for the Bisons. The game will be broadcast on WDUN-550 AM. Tomorrow is also Youth Group Night as groups and local churches will be in attendance, including a concert by the 12Stone Youth Group Worship Band.
