The Gulls fell to the Ontario Reign 6-3 tonight at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Despite the setback, San Diego has wins in 13 of their last 17 games (13-3-1-0) and points in 19 of 22 (16-3-1-2).

Kiefer Sherwood scored his first goal of the season at 11:28, his third point in eight games. Justin Kloos earned the lone assist to extend his assist and point streak to three games (0-4=4). Chase De Leo also added an assist on the goal and is now riding a three-game point streak (2-2=4).

With his 41st point (22-19=41), Carrick tied a career high to match last season's total (13-28=41).

Matt Berry and Keaton Thompson each added assists on the Carrick goal.

Kalle Kossila netted his eighth goal and 20th point of the season at 5:32 of the third period. Troy Terry picked up the lone assists, his team-leading 24th of the season.

POSTGAME QUOTES

San Diego Gulls

Sam Carrick

On the game

We definitely had some chances, but not enough. With our lineup right now, we should be dominating teams, but that just doesn't matter if you're not going to put the work in. We saw that tonight. We can't just come into a game and expect good things to happen. We have to earn it every night and tonight was a good wake up call. Maybe we got too complacent, things have been going good lately. We need to get back to work here and tighten things up.

On his club record 22nd goal

It would feel a lot better if we won the game and we have to hit the reset button tonight. Move on, learn from what we did wrong and we've got these guys next game.

On the upcoming six-game road trip

We're going to have to roll all four lines and all six (defensemen). We have two good goalies back there that we know night in and night out are going to stand in there for us. With our lineup right now, we should be able to roll four lines and wear teams out. That should be our game plan. If we tighten up our shifts a little bit, then that will help us. It doesn't matter if we're on the road or at home, every game is going to be huge from here on out.

Head Coach Dallas Eakins

On the game

It was a lack of execution. On most nights, the chances we had in front of the net are in the net. We couldn't execute those. Our power play was not very good until the very last one when we finally got it together. If you're not going to execute in games, you're not going to win. That's just the way it is and we have to be better in that area.

On the upcoming six-game road trip

We just have to go in with a great mindset. Every night is a critical night. We can't get lulled to sleep in a game, which I thought happened to us a couple times here tonight.

On Sam Carrick

Sam came out of training camp highly motivated and he's been excellent on a nightly basis. He's a real good leader for us. He lives his life right away from the rink. He comes in and puts in the work every day. He's not a real flashy guy but he gets in done through playing on the inside and being committed. It's a privilege to coach a guy like that and we're very proud of his success.
