Guindon and Brown Invited to Hockey Canada Under-18 Development Camp

July 8, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Owen Sound Attack News Release

Hockey Canada announced today that Owen Sound Attack forward Cedrick Guindon and Head Athletic Therapist Andy Brown are both headed to the Men's Under-18 Development camp. Guindon was one of 45 players invited to camp, while Brown will serve as one of three Athletic Therapists on site for the event.

The Under-18 summer development camp, taking place at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Tsuut'ina Nation, Alberta from July 26th to August 3rd is part of Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence. This event is comprised of a mixture of on-ice practices and games as well as off-ice activities, normally designed to help choose a team for the Hlinka Gretzsky Cup and identify players for the IIHF Ice Hockey Under-18 World Championships in the spring. Unfortunately, this year Canada will not be participating in the Hlinka Gretzsky Cup, set to kick off on August 2nd in the Czech Republic. The camp will also feature combined practices and intrasquad games with Canada's National Junior Team on August 2nd and 3rd.

Neither Guindon or Brown are strangers to the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, with both having donned the red and white previously. Guindon won a bronze medal at the Youth Olympic Games and was invited to last year's Under-17 virtual Development camp, while Brown is a three-time gold medalist with the under-18 program, winning the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2009 and 2017 and the Hlinka Gretzsky Cup in 2018. He has also represented Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2006 and 2017 and the IIHF Ice Hockey Under-18 World Championships in 2019.

"It's really hard to put into words" said Brown when asked about being invited to be involved in the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence again. "Being a part of Hockey Canada and this program is a great honour and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity."

"It's a great honour to be able to participate in another great Hockey Canada program" said Guindon when asked about his invite. "I'm looking forward to working with some of the best coaches and competing against the best players from across the country."

The Hockey Canada Men's Under-18 Development Camp takes place in Tsuut'ina Nation, Alberta from July 26th to August 3rd.
