Ottawa, Ontario - The Ottawa Rapids of the Can-Am League have announced the signing of two more players to their growing roster.

Jason Pilkington, the St. Catharines, Ontario native was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2002, only a few months after he began playing ball.

Pilkington is a 6'6" lefty; little wonder he almost beat the national high jump record in high school. He traded in the high jump mat for the pitcher's mound and has since played in the Canadian League, Frontier League and Can-Am League.

In Pilkington's three seasons in the Minor Leagues he's compiled a record of 13 wins and 5 losses, with a career 2.59 ERA and an impressive 122 strikeouts in 137 innings.

Karl Mejlholm, a 24-year-old righthander from Nanaimo, B.C., will also be joining the Rapids.

Mejlholm boasts a resume that includes being drafted in 2002, right out of highschool by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a 14th round pick. He also played for the Rouen Huskies in 2007. With the Huskies he played in the European Cup in San Marino, Italy.

He played ball at Washington State University, College of Southern Idaho and was the starting pitcher for two seasons for the NAIA Cumberland University in Tennessee where they finished in 2nd place in the NAIA World Series in 2006. Mejlholm held a record of 10-3.

"I'm really looking forward to my first professional season in Ottawa", says Mejlholm. "It's exciting to be part of a new team and I can only hope to play my best, help the team win and have fun while I'm doing it."

The Rapids open their 2008 season at home on May 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the New Jersey Jackals. For ticket information, contact the club's office at (613) 747-5969.
