Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Tornadoes announced that they have re-signed free agent Righthanded Pitcher Junior Guerrero to a contract for the 2008 season.
Guerrero, 30, was the Tornadoes Most Valuable Pitcher in 2007, posting a 7-5 record with a 3.76 ERA. He lead the team in Wins (7), Games Started (21), Innings Pitched (122), and Strikeouts (93). He finished the '07 campaign just one whiff shy of tying the all-time Tornadoes record for strikeouts in a season (Mike Cox - 94 in '05), and his 122 innings pitched was a franchise-best. His 2007 season highlights included 5.2 no-hit innings in a win over the Grays on June 9, and retiring the first 20 batters Nashua Pride batters of the game on August 1, taking a perfect game into the 7th inning in another victory. Both those starts were on three-days rest. In 2006, Guerrero won the Can-Am League ERA title with a sparkling 1.89, and tied for 4th in the league in Wins (8).
"We are thrilled to have Junior back with us for the 2008 season," said Tornadoes Manager Rich Gedman. "He is a bulldog on the mound and we're always happy to add an experienced, talented, veteran presence in the clubhouse and on the field."
Guerrero, who has pitched for Worcester since the team's inception in 2005, is the all-time franchise leader in Wins (22), ERA (3.17), Innings Pitched (323.2) and Walks (142) for a career. The model of consistency on the mound, Guerrero put together a remarkable streak of 24 consecutive starts for Worcester allowing 3 earned runs or less from 8/21/05-6/9/07.
