
Ground Hogs Day: Rockford tops Fury again, 3-1

Rockford, Ill.- Wednesday night marked the fourth meeting of the 2004-05 season between the Rockford IceHogs and Muskegon Fury at the Rockford MetroCentre. For the third time, the Hogs topped Muskegon 3-1 on Ground Hogs Day. Goaltender Seamus Kotyk closed out his four game stint with the IceHogs with win number three, turning away 22 shots.
The Fury were first to score however. Center Colin Embley batted in a goal from Bill Zalba at 14:21 to take the 1-0 lead. The IceHogs responded at the 18:42 mark when Jason Ralph converted a 2-on-1 breakaway with center Alex Kim, firing the equalizer past Sylvain Daigle.
Rockford grabbed their first lead at 18:12 of the second period when defenseman Vince Malts blasted in a long Nathan Lutz rebound. The Hogs received some insurance in the third period after another great individual effort from winger Chris Gobert. Gobert picked a pass off at the center ice line and beat Daigle on a breakaway at 14:21 of the final period.
There were only three penalties called in the contest. Rockford was 0-for-2 on the power play while Muskegon was 0-for-1. The IceHogs peppered Daigle with 27 shots and saddled the Fury goalie with the loss. In four games with Rockford, Kotyk gave up only three goals.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, February 9 vs. Port Huron Beacons. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Beacons return to Rockford for the second time this season. It's another PigOut Wednesday with the IceHogs and WXRX, 104.9FM.
