Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies have re-signed four pitchers for the 2012 season. Chris Enourato, Richard Barrett, Paul Tremlin and Jordan Cudney will be key members of the Grizzlies pitching staff in the upcoming season.
Enourato pitched the entire 2011 season for Gateway, earning Frontier League All-Star honors. He was also selected as the team's Pitcher of the Year. A 6-1 right-hander from Morgantown, W.V., Enourato finished the season with 3.77 ERA. He led the team with 11 saves and tied for the team lead in appearances with 39. Enourato is 24-years-old.
"We need Chris to step up and solidify a leadership role on the pitching staff," Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren said. "We are going to explore putting Chris in the starting rotation and see how it works. He has the starter makeup with three quality pitches. We'll see how the transition goes."
Barrett, a California native, enjoyed his second stint with the Grizzlies. After being dealt away from Gateway in 2010, the 6-3 right-hander returned to the Grizzlies in a June 2011 trade from River City. Pitching exclusively out of the Grizzlies bullpen, the 23-year-old went 4-4 with a 3.60 ERA in 32 appearances.
"Richard will be a back end of the bullpen guy for us," Warren commented. "We hope he can be a dominant closer in this league. He certainly has the talent to be that."
Tremlin and Cudney spent their rookie year in a Grizzlies uniform. Tremlin, 22, excelled as a middle reliever before spending the final weeks of the season on the disabled list. A 6-4 right-hander from California, Tremlin compiled a 4.08 ERA in ten relief appearances. Cudney, 23, also served as a middle reliever before earning a spot start in his final appearance of 2011. The 23-year-old from North Carolina finished 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA. He tossed six shutout innings, allowing only one hit, in a late-season start.
"We see both Paul and Jordan as starters in 2012," Warren remarked. "We are hoping Paul's arm holds up Jordan can build on his great finish last season. They both now know what to expect and we anticipate them coming in ready to go."
