Fairbanks, AK. 01.09.10. Ricky Bertz, General Manager and owner of the Fairbanks Grizzlies made the team's first announcement for 2010 as one of both happiness and sadness-
"We are pleased to announce that Linnis "Pete" Smith has been signed by the Dallas Desperadoes of the Arena Football 1 league. While we are happy for Pete, as ultimately it is one of our main goals as an organization to provide players with an opportunity to advance their playing careers onto higher levels, we are sad as his dancing and charismatic energy during games will be sorely missed by the organization and more importantly the Fairbanks fans. Pete did more than just bring constant pressure to opposing offenses from his defensive end position, he brought the fans into the game more and more as the season progressed with his high energy both during and between plays giving him the nickname "The Dancing Maniac". He was definitely one of the crowd favorites, and will be sorely missed"
Coach Ponder on Pete Smith - "The guy is one heck of a football player, but more importantly a good teammate. I'm not sure if I ever saw him without a smile on his face, he was happy doing what he loved most day in and day out and that was playing football. If Pete ever wants to trade in the hot sand down in Texas in exchange for snow in Fairbanks we'd love to have him back, but his dream is to return back to the NFL where he was once a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I wish him the best of luck."
The Fairbanks Grizzlies would like to remind fans that tickets for the team's first ever home exhibition game on February 22nd will go on sale to the general public starting January 22nd. Season tickets are still available for the 2010, but some sections are already sold out.
