Grizzlies Pitcher Logan Mahon Headed to Orioles Organization
November 26, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies and manager Phil Warren are happy to announce that left-handed pitcher Logan Mahon has had his contract purchased by the Baltimore Orioles.
"We're excited for Logan and happy that he will get another chance in affiliated ball," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "He's deserving of the chance and we wish him well."
Mahon, 24, spent the entire 2012 season with Gateway and was an integral part of the team's pitching success during their 57-39 season that included a trip to the Frontier League playoffs. He becomes the second player from the 2012 team to have their contract purchased by a major league organization.
The St. Elmo, IL native appeared in 33 games, all relief, while recording a 2-1 record and a 2.52 ERA. In 35 2/3 innings, Mahon struck out 25 and walked 21.
"Our bullpen was one of our strengths this past season and Logan was a big reason," Warren commented. "He was consistent throughout the entire season for us. The Orioles are getting a great arm."
Mahon was a 22nd round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2011 after a solid collegiate career at Kaskaskia College and Southeast Missouri State University. While in the Rockies organization, Mahon did not record a win or loss and had an ERA of 4.50 in five relief appearances with the Casper Ghosts (Rookie Ball).
When drafted by the Rockies, Mahon became the fifth highest draft pick in SEMO baseball history and the fourth Redhawk to be selected in the top 25 rounds. He was the first Ohio Valley Conference baseball player selected in the 2011 draft.
