Florence, Ky. - The Gateway Grizzlies were plagued by errors and walks on Sunday afternoon at UC Health Stadium as Gateway dropped the rubber game of a series against the Florence Freedom, 6-2.

The Grizzlies (40-39) committed four errors in the ballgame and left ten runners on-base.

LHP Corey Kimes battled through six innings while giving up three runs. Two of the runs were unearned. The lefty also walked six batters.

The game was scoreless through three innings, but Ben Waldrip changed that in the fourth against Florence starter Braulio Torres-Perez. Waldrip hammered a solo shot deep over the field field wall. Waldrip's ninth homer of the season gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. It was the only run that Torres-Perez (1-0) allowed.

The Freedom (35-43) rallied in the bottom half of the fourth without collecting a hit against Kimes (4-3), as he issued three straight walks to begin the frame. A sac fly from Shaun Cooper then tied the game at 1-1. A throwing error by Gateway catcher Jason Scholl later in the frame allowed Andrew Godbold to race home with a run, making it 2-1.

Gateway committed three errors in the fifth as Florence tacked on another run to lead 3-1.

Torres-Perez would ultimately deliver a solid outing as he threw seven innings and gave up just one run. RHP Cody Gray came on for the eighth and pitched a scoreless frame.

After pitching a scoreless seventh inning, RHP Kevin Jefferis was touched up for three runs in the bottom half of the eighth as Florence pulled away.

Gateway's offense scored a run against RHP Evan Bickett in the ninth to pull within 6-2. After loading the bases, the Grizzlies brought the tying run to the plate twice but failed to deliver against Florence closer Ethan Gibbons. Gibbons picked up his tenth save of the season.

After an off day on Monday, the Grizzlies continue their road trip with the start of a three-game set against the Southern Illinois Miners on Tuesday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Tuesday on 1400 AM KJFF and online at www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt has the call.
