THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Gastonia scored four runs in the sixth inning of Saturday night's game to overcome a three-run deficit and never looked back as they defeated the HiToms 10-7 at Finch Field to advance in the CPL playoffs.
Gastonia (31-27) trailed 7-4 when they came to bat in the sixth inning and scored four times against Conner Scarborough (L, 0-1) to turn the game around. The big hit of the inning came from Justin Vasquez who doubled home three to tie the score before a Grant Gajdosz put the Grizzlies up for good one batter later.
The HiToms (32-27) had a chance to win the game in the ninth when they loaded the bases with one out against Derek Epps (S, 1) but couldn't score as the Grizzlies escaped the jam to win the game.
Trailing 4-1 in the third, the HiToms scored four times to take the lead as Tanner Mathis singled home two-run and Jacob Fisher followed with a two-run home run over the wall in left to give the Tommies a lead they couldn't hold as Gastonia won the series two games to one with a 10-7 victory.
