Grijak clutch in ninth as Jackals win

Little Falls, NJ – The Jackals thrilled the crowd with bottom of the ninth heroics, and stunned the Northeast League Aces by a score of 4-3.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Carlos Pagan would get things going for the Jackals with a double. The following batter, Rick Elder, singled down the first base line, scoring Pagan.

The Aces would put one up on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. Coby Smith walked, and stole a base with one out. Stephen Larkin then came to the plate, and singled, scoring Smith, to even the score.

New Jersey would retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Scott Goodman doubled to lead things off. Two batters later, Elder singled, driving in Goodman, for his second RBI of the ballgame.

During the top of the sixth, the Aces would score a couple of runs to take the lead. The first two batters, Schuyler Doakes and Smith reached on singles. With one out, cleanup batter Mike Davis singled for his third hit of the ballgame, pushing across Doakes to tie the score. The next batter Yohanny Valera flied out to right field, allowing Smith to tag up and score from third. The Aces took the lead 3-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, New Jersey would take the game. Zach Smithlin started things off. With one out, he drew a walk. With two outs, Wady Almonte walked, setting the stage for Kevin Grijak. Grijak tripled off the wall in right field, scoring both runners, to win the game for the Jackals.

Carlos Figueroa was awarded the win for the Jackals. Buzzy Francis got the loss for the Aces.

New Jersey improves to 6-8 on the season. The Aces fall to 3-12.

Elder was 2-4, for New Jersey, with two RBI.

Davis of the Aces was 3-4 with a double and one RBI.
