
Griffins Sign Goaltender Calvin Heeter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins have signed goaltender Calvin Heeter to a standard player's contract for the 2016-17 season.
Heeter, 27, spent the 2015-16 season between two clubs. In 24 games with the Hamburg Freezers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga he posted an 11-8-0 record, a 3.00 goals against average and a 0.900 save percentage while showing a 0-2-2 mark, a 3.23 GAA and a 0.856 save percentage in six games with the Kontinental Hockey League's Zagreb Medvescak.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound netminder also skated in 22 games with Zagreb Medvescak in 2014-15 and compiled a 9-9-2 record, a 2.65 GAA and a 0.911 save percentage.
A native of St. Louis, Heeter last played in North America in 2014-15 when he appeared in four games with the ECHL's Evansville Icemen and made one appearance for the Toronto Marlies.
Undrafted, Heeter made his lone NHL appearance with the Philadelphia Flyers on April 13, 2014, a 6-5 shootout loss to Carolina.
Over the course of his four-year professional career, Heeter has totaled a 54-64-11 record, a 2.83 GAA and a 0.907 save percentage in 142 games between the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL), Trenton Titans (ECHL), Philadelphia Flyers (NHL), Evansville Icemen (ECHL), Toronto Marlies (AHL), Zagreb Medvescak (KHL) and Hamburg Freezers (DEL).
Heeter has also represented his home country in international play, earning a bronze medal during the 2013 World Championship.
Prior to turning pro, Heeter backstopped the Ohio State Buckeyes (CCHA) from 2008-12, earned three Academic All-Big Ten selections and placed his name among the program's all-time goaltending leaders with 39 wins (9th), a 2.58 GAA (4th), a 0.915 save percentage (5th), five shutouts (T5th), 2,428 saves (8th) and 5260:59 minutes (6th).
The Griffins will begin the home portion of their 2016-17 season with Opening Night presented by Huntington Bank on Friday, Oct. 14 at Van Andel Arena. Additional home dates confirmed by the American Hockey League include Dec. 31, Jan. 7, Jan. 21, Feb. 4 and Feb. 25.
