Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

CINCINNATI - The Grand Rapids Griffins (13-6-4-0) used two goals in just over three minutes in the second period and 35 saves by Marc Lamothe to down the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (9-10-3-0) on Sunday evening at Cincinnati Gardens by a 2-0 score. The Griffins are unbeaten in their last six outings and remain in first place of the West Division and tie Hamilton atop the Western Conference with 30 points.

Lamothe became the first netminder in Griffins history to post consecutive shutouts on the road. He also extended his personal winning streak to five games, matching the high he set twice last season. He has yielded just four goals in his last five outings, stopping 118 of 122 shots over that span for a save percentage of 0.967.

Grand Rapids opened the scoring in the second period when Blake Sloan's wrist shot beat Ilya Bryzgalov 7:58 into the second period. Jiri Hudler extended his point-scoring streak to four games with an assist on the goal. He has a goal and five assists for six points during the streak.

Just over three minutes later, Hugo Boisvert poked a puck loose in the neutral zone. Sloan gathered the puck and went in on a breakaway on Bryzgalov. The Ducks goaltender made the initial save, but Boisvert followed the play and jammed in the rebound for a shorthanded marker 11:07 into the middle frame.

The Griffins killed off all six power plays against them. In doing so, they extended to seven the number of games that they haven't yielded a goal while killing a penalty. They have killed the last 28 man-down situations and 42 of the last 43 scenarios.

Grand Rapids returns home to host the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
