GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Griff will take a break from his preparations for the Grand Rapids Griffins' 2009-10 season to join in this weekend's ArtPrize fun.

Fans are invited to join Griff and Derek Maxfield from Ice Sculptures Ltd. on the lawn of the Gerald R. Ford Museum on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a live ice carving demonstration with a Griffins twist.

While you are there, be sure to check out Maxfield's official ArtPrize entry titled "Surf-n-Turf," an impressive three-dimensional colored ice and snow sculpture featuring a stylized tiger shark swimming through its underwater habitat. The unique attraction will be set up in a freezer truck featuring a window for public viewing.

If you like what you see, vote for Maxfield's entry by texting "vote25471" to 878787.

Maxfield, whose work has been featured on the Discovery Channel and Ripley's Believe It or Not, is a co-owner of Ice Sculptures Ltd, which created the ice sculptures (one of which is pictured next to Griff) for the Griffins' 2009 Great Skate Winterfest at Rosa Parks Circle.
