Grieb Signs On For 10th Season

SAN JOSE, Calif. (January 11, 2008) - All of SaberCat Nation can stop holding its breath -ArenaBowl XXI MVP Mark Grieb will return for his 10th season as the San Jose quarterback after signing a one-year deal, the club announced today.
"Those three championship banners that are hanging in our arena are in large part due to Mark Grieb," affirmed head coach and general manager Darren Arbet. "His dedication and sacrifice to this organization has been a catalyst to our success."
Grieb (6-2, 215, UC Davis) is regarded as one of the greatest signal-callers to ever play in the Arena Football League. His career resume is littered with league passing records and championships. In 2007, Grieb became the only passer in the history of the AFL to throw for more than 4,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.
"I am happy to be back as a SaberCat, again," smiled Grieb. "It's the people here that make it enjoyable and exciting - the front office, coaches, players and especially the fans. One thing I've learned is to appreciate where you are and I really do."
Grieb tossed 100 touchdowns last season and finished second in the league in completion percentage (71.0), third in passer rating (125.4) and yards (4,608), and fourth in passing yards per game (288.0). Grieb's durability has been as sound as his proficiency, starting in 91 consecutive regular and postseason games dating back to 2003.
"It's hard to win a championship and even harder to repeat," Grieb admitted. "But I think it's going to be exciting this year because we have a lot of the pieces of the puzzle still here to do it."
A premiere franchise in the Arena Football League, San Jose has won three ArenaBowl championships and captured seven Western Division titles, eight consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league's best regular season record this decade. The SaberCats begin defense of their AFL title on March 3 in Chicago on ESPN2.
