GreyWolves Return Home to Face Kelowna
June 17, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Gresham GreyWolves News Release
GRESHAM, Ore. - Looking to bounce back from a rough road trip earlier this week in Victoria, the Gresham GreyWolves return home this weekend for a quick three-game set against the Kelowna Falcons. The series will span Friday through Sunday at Oslund Field.
LAST TIME OUT
Gresham embarked on its first road trip in franchise history this week, battling hard at times but ultimately losing all three games played against the Victoria HarbourCats. Despite a two-hit night from outfielder Drew Curtis (Southern Illinois), the GreyWolves were blanked 2-0 in game one of the series.
A late rally in the middle game of the series wasn't enough for Justin Barchus' team, who ended up falling 9-5 on Wednesday. Jack Johnson, Nick Snyder, Ty Wyatt, and Jeffrey Mitchell, Jr. all recorded RBIs in a four-run eighth inning for Gresham.
Victoria emerged from Thursday afternoon's matinee with a sweep firmly in hand after squeezing out a 3-2 victory. The HarbourCats broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth and hung on throughout the final three innings for the one-run win.
PITCHING PREVIEW
Gresham's probable starters are as follows:
Game 1: RHP Brett Gannaway will get the nod in game one. The Columbia product has yet to earn a decision in six innings on the mound in West Coast League play, allowing just one run on three total hits.
Game 2: LHP Chris Brown just joined the team earlier this week and will make his first start on Saturday. Brown appeared in more games (29) than any other pitcher for UC Davis this past spring.
Game 3: TBANOT BAD FOR STARTERS
The WCL announced its first player of the week honors for the 2016 season on Monday, and Gresham's Jeffrey Mitchell, Jr. was the recipient of the inaugural award. Mitchell hit at a .550 average in the first week of play and drove in five RBIs throughout the first six games.
DON'T WALK THIS WAY
The GreyWolves pitching staff has prided itself in accuracy so far in 2016, only issuing 25 walks though nine games. That number has the team ranked first in the WCL in that category.
