Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The first game of the 2009 Blizzard season will have former quarterback, Chris Greisen, as the honorary captain for the game. Greisen, a Sturgeon Bay native, started his arena football career with the Blizzard and quickly learned the basics of the game before moving on to play for the Dallas Desperados (AFL) and the Georgia Force (AFL). Greisen is known as the First Great Blizzard player to see success at the next level which is every player's goal in the af2.
One common trend that followed him throughout his career was setting records with every team he played on. Greisen holds the Blizzard single game records by attaining 400 passing yards in one game and throwing nine touchdowns. In 2007, Greisen was able to start his first full season in the AFL but didn't waste any time getting his name in the record books while setting the AFL single season records for completion percentage, 74.0 percent, and touchdown passes with 117 touchdowns. During that time he only threw 12 interceptions on 530 pass attempts. That same season Greisen ranked second in passing yards and first in quarterback rating on his way to a First Team All-AFL selection. Greisen appreciated his time with the Blizzard and believed it truly helped him continue his success in the AFL. "My time with the Blizzard helped to teach me the basics of the game," explains Greisen, "I really had to get acclimated with the speed, timing and angles of Arena Football." This ability to learn the different aspects of arena football while with the Blizzard made his transition to the AFL easier. Before playing in the AFL and AF2 leagues, Greisen spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, the Washington Redskins and the NFL Europe Rhein Fire.
