Greisen, Finley and Leung-Wai earn week seven honors
May 18, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - Green Bay quarterback CHRIS GREISEN, Green Bay wide receiver/defensive back DERONN FINLEY and Central Valley offensive/defensive lineman RICKY LEUNG-WAI have been named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player, U.S. Army Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 7 of the 2004 season.
BABY RUTH REAL DEAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greisen (6-3, 225, Northwest Missouri State), an af2 rookie, guided the Blizzard to a 71-53 victory over the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz to move the Blizzard to 3-3 on the season. Completing 23-of-35 passes for 334 yards and no interceptions, Greisen was responsible for all ten Blizzard touchdowns on the night, throwing for nine and rushing for one more. He was especially effective close to the goal line, with five of his nine touchdown passes coming in the red zone. After taking a five-point lead in the second quarter Greisen never let Oklahoma City get any closer, leading the Blizzard to points on each of Green Bay's drives in the second half. This is the first weekly award for Greisen. On the season, Greisen is the second Blizzard player to win a player of the week award. Randall Lane won the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week award in Week 2.
U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Finley (5-9, 185, Idaho State), a rookie, put up numbers in all three facets of the game to help the Green Bay Blizzard top the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, 71-53. On offense, Finley caught seven passes for 49 yards and three touchdowns. On the other side of the ball Finley snagged an interception, his third of the season, and recorded three solo tackles. To cap this off Finley recorded 67 yards on five kickoff returns. His three touchdowns all came in the first half and were crucial to the Blizzard taking a lead into halftime that they never relinquished. This is Finley's first weekly award and he and Greisen are the first teammates to win weekly awards in the same week this season. The last team to have multiple award winners in the same week was the Arkansas Twisters during Week 13 of the 2002 season. Rickey Hebert, Daedrick Cail and Lennie Johnson swept the awards that week.
ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Leung-Wai (6-2, 290, Concord), playing in his fourth af2 season, helped lead the Central Valley Coyotes to their first victory of the season, a 42-31 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Dorados. Leung-Wai brought a heavy pass rush, registering three sacks on the night. He sacked QB Abel Gonzalez twice and QB Will Burch once. His three sacks were the most for any player in Week 7 and tied Marlon Bush of Birmingham for most sacks in a single game this season. Leung-Wai also registered a forced a fumble, one of four turnovers the Coyotes' defense forced. This is the first weekly award for Leung-Wai in his af2 career and it is the first for a Central Valley Coyotes player this season.
