Greg Marshall Honoured as CFL's Coach of the Year

Hamilton, Ontario – The Canadian Football League announced today that Hamilton Tiger-Cats Head Coach Greg Marshall has won the 2004 CFL Coach of the Year (the Annis Stukus award).

In his rookie season, Marshall led the Tiger-Cats on a remarkable turnaround, earning the team's first playoff birth in three years with a 9-8-1 record.

"This is an exceptional honour. The entire team deserves credit for this award," said Marshall. "The support and the effort from the guys in the locker room, the entire coaching staff, our front office and business staff is fantastic. I 'm excited to accept this award on behalf of the entire Hamilton Tiger-Cats organization."

Marshall's impact on the team was immediate as the Cats were victorious in their first three games. The Ticats finished the season strong, winning four of their last five games to clinch a playoff birth for the first time since 2001. Hamilton's extraordinary campaign came to an end in the Eastern Division Semi-finals where the Cats bowed out to the eventual Grey Cup Champs from Toronto.

Prior to joining the Ticats, Marshall spent 20 years coaching in the Ontario University Association with McMaster University and the University of Western Ontario.

The award presented at the CFL Coach of the Year Luncheon in Winnipeg, Manitoba during the CFL Congress Meetings. Also nominated were Toronto Argonauts coach Michael "Pinball" Clemons and B.C. Lions coach Wally Buono.

Marshall is the first Tiger-Cat coach to win the Annis Stukus award since current General Manager Ron Lancaster was honoured in 1998.
