(Calgary) â Today Calgary Stampeders' Head Coach and VP of Football Operations, Tom Higgins, announced the free agent signing of Quarterback Darnell Kennedy.
As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Darnell is a very quick learner and student of the game," stated GM Jim Barker. "The combination of his quickness and accuracy as a passer will fit well in our offensive scheme."

Entering his 3rd season with the Stampeders ... signed as a free agent on February 24, 2005 ... originally joined the Stampeders in 2002 ... was traded on July 4th, 2003 to the Ottawa Renegades.
2004 Game 5 vs WPG: Came in for relief for Kerry Joseph after the starter got injured in the second quarter. Went five-for-16 for 62 yards ... Game 6 @ TOR: In his first ever CFL start, Kennedy had a solid performance, going 14-of-28 for 165 yards, a touchdown and an interception ... his first touchdown pass of the season came on a 33-yard toss to Jason Armstead ... Game 7 vs CGY: Kennedy injured his ankle in the first quarter, but gutted it out in the second half coming off the bench to lead the Renegades to an improbable 31-30 victory ... with Ottawa trailing 29-14 with less than four minutes left in regulation, Kennedy threw two touchdown passes to Demetris Bendross and set up the game-winning drive for the Renegades to improve to 4-3 ... in all, Kennedy completed 17 of 23 passes for 226 yards and the pair of touchdown tosses ... he also plunged into the end zone on a one-yard quarterback keeper ... Game 8 @ B.C.: In his third start of his pro career, Kennedy was effective for the Renegades going 10-of-21 for 188 yards and a touchdown as well as an interception Game 10 @ EDM: Got some playing time toward the end of regulation, attempting two passes and completing one Game 12 vs B.C.: Saw some action at the end of regulation, completing one pass and rushing once. Game 15 vs SSK: Entered game after Joseph left in the first quarter and completed 16 of 29 passes for 196 yards ... rushed twice for 6 yards ... Game 16 @ HAM: Started the game for injured Kerry Joseph ... went 5 for 10 for 61 yards before leaving the game with an injury.
2003 Threw TD pass against Ottawa on July 1 at McMahon Stadium, a four-yard completion to Wane McGarity at the 14-minute mark of the fourth quarter ... acquired in trade July 4 with Calgary for the negotiation rights to QB Jason Gesser ... made only game appearance for Renegades Oct. 26 @ Montreal ... completed two of five passes for 19 yards (long 12).

Dressed for all 18 games with Calgary ... Spent most of the season as the No. 3 quarterback on the Stampeders ... depth chart ... made CFL debut against Montreal on July 18, completing two of five passes for 30 yards ... displayed poise and arm strength ... also carried the ball three times for 22 yards ... also saw action Sept. 6 @ Edmonton.
