Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay, WI - The Green Bay Blizzard and Head Coach Robert Fuller are excited to announce that one of the top Linebackers in the IFL will be returning to the Blizzard for his second season. Greg Jackson returns to Green Bay for another year and looks to improve on an already stellar rookie season. Jackson is a 6'2" 225lb. from the University of Memphis.
When asked about Jackson, Coach Fuller had nothing but rave reviews, saying, "We are very excited to have Greg Jackson rejoin the Blizzard family. Greg is a great football player and when I went over the film from last season I knew he was one of the guys we absolutely had to have back. He brings the hammer every play and provides great leadership. Having him back makes us a much better football team on and off the field."
As a Blizzard in 2011, Jackson had a great rookie year. Jackson led the Blizzard defense with 113 total tackles (65 solo and 48 assisted). He compiled seven sacks, forced one fumble, and returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown. Jackson's 113 tackles were good enough for third in the IFL this past season. Jackson was also named the Week 17 Vidswap.com Defensive Player of the week for his efforts against the Chicago Slaughter during the regular season finale. He had 6.5 tackles, 2 of which were for a loss, 1 sack, and 1 interception that was returned for a touchdown.
At the University of Memphis, Jackson was a 2008 All-Conference USA Honorable Mention pick and was named the Defensive Player of the Year at the team banquet. In 2009, Jackson played in nine of 12 games with nine starts at outside linebacker. Jackson was named by his teammates as one of three permanent captains for the year. He ranked first on the team in fumble recoveries (2), second in tackles for loss (6.5 for -31) and tied for first in forced fumbles (3). He was third on the team in solo tackles (33) and finished fourth on the team in total tackles (56).
Jackson made at least one Tackle for Loss in his past eight of 12 games and totaled 13 in the span for a loss of 64 yards. He averaged 6.2 tackles per game and made at least seven tackles in four of the nine games. Jackson also had one sack, one interception and two pass breakups. Jackson had this to say about playing in Green Bay, "I am happy to get an opportunity to continue to play in a tradition rich city like Green Bay again. I had a good college career and I am looking at this as a great opportunity to move to the next level. I am ready to get our there and continue to prove myself and help the team anyway I can. Football is my life and I am not ready to stop playing."
