Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (January 31, 2005) - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Milwaukee Wave forward, Greg Howes, has been named Offensive Player of the Month. Howes wins the award for the first time this season and is the second member of the Wave to win the award (Todd Dusosky - December).
The MISL's two-time, defending MVP led the league in points (20), goals (13) and tied for the lead (with teammate and linemate, Todd Dusosky) in assists (7) in January. He closed out the month with hat-tricks in three of the Wave's final four games of January; including the final two games against the Baltimore Blast and California Cougars. In Sunday's game, he registered his 450th career point with his second goal of the contest. Howes' closest competition for points this month came from his teammate, Todd Dusosky, who had 18.
Howes will go into February as the league's leading scorer after his 20 points in seven January games. The Tacoma, Washington, native has 38 points (23 goals and 15 assists) in 15 games this season. He is second in the league in goals and third in assists. Howes has also come through with a league-best seven restart goals and five power play goals (tied for the league lead).
The Milwaukee Wave signed Howes prior to the 2000-01 season. Now in his sixth season with the Wave, Howes has tallied 217 goals and 125 assists (453 points) in 204 games. This season he was named to his third All-Star team, which will be played in front of his home crowd at the U.S. Cellular Arena on February 11. The three-time All-MISL First Team selection has been a part of two championship squads with the Wave. He is among the franchise leaders in games played (204 - 8th), goals (217 - 2nd), points (453 - 4th) and assists (125 - 4th).
The Wave will face the Blast in Baltimore on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. It is Milwaukee's final contest before hosting the 2006 MISL All-Star Game Saturday, February 11 at 7:05 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Arena. After the All-Star Game, the next home game for the Wave will be on Sunday, February 19 at 1:05 p.m. against the Chicago Storm.
