Dear Chiefs Fans:
Having spent the majority of my playing career with the Cubs, I am thrilled to be returning to the great organization to manage the Peoria Chiefs in 2006.
I was fortunate to be able to visit with many of you and meet members of the Chiefs organization at the Cubs Caravan on January 12th. In getting my first personal look at O'Brien Field, who wouldn't be very excited about the upcoming season? Our young players will enjoy the facilities and playing in a Major League style facility in downtown Peoria.
The Midwest League is one of the premier leagues in all of Minor League Baseball and it produces some of the best prospects and teams year in and year out. Hopefully this Chiefs team will be one of the squads that all of baseball will be talking about.
In 2005 you as fans enjoyed some great individual prospects at O'Brien Field. With Sean Gallagher, Eric Patterson, Ryan Harvey, Sam Fuld, Matt Weber and Grant Johnson all Chiefs fans were treated to spectacular talent within the Cubs organization.
Cubs Director of Player Development, Oneri Fleita, and his staff are working hard now to put together a great squad for Peoria in 2006. I will join Oneri at Spring Training and hopefully we will be able to construct a hard working, talented team for you to enjoy night after night at O'Brien Field in the summer of 2006.
Right now the Chiefs staff is working hard to put together an exciting promotional schedule for the 2006 season. My staff, Rich Bombard, Barbaro Garbey , Nick Frangella, and myself will do our part to get the players ready to perform to the best of their abilities for you all summer long.
My wife Penny and I look forward to spending time in the Peoria community this summer around the best fans in baseball, the Cubs fans. Thanks for the warm welcome at the Cubs Caravan and we look forward to seeing you Thursday April 13th at the home opener against the Swing of the Quad Cities at 6:30PM.
