Greenville Triumph, World Relief Upstate SC Partner to Recognize World Refugee Day

Greenville, SC - In recognition of World Refugee Day on June 20th,The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club and World Relief Upstate SC are partnering to celebrate refugees' meaningful contributions to both the Upstate area and around the globe through a professional soccer match. Greenville Triumph's home game against Union Omaha will take place on Saturday, June 10th at 7:00 PM at Furman's Paladin Stadium.

"At Greenville Triumph, we're excited to shine a spotlight on the work World Relief is doing here in the Upstate and across the globe," said Greenville Triumph Vice Chairman Doug Erwin. "Soccer is a sport that brings people together all over the world, and our club's mission to bring people together and create joy for people across the Upstate aligns well with what World Relief works to accomplish in our community every day."

Through the soccer match, the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club and the Upstate SC office of World Relief aim to celebrate the strength and courage of refugees who are rebuilding their lives in South Carolina. Churches, businesses, and community partners and volunteers who have worked with World Relief to welcome and serve local refugees will be present at the match. The event will feature a competitive match between Greenville Triumph and their rival team, Union Omaha. The clubs finished 1-2 in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, with each team collecting a title and Greenville and Omaha drew 3-3 in their first matchup of the 2023 season.

"The refugees who call South Carolina home are valuable and resilient members of our communities. They have endured challenges and dangers we cannot comprehend on their journey to the United States and now they need our help as they make South Carolina their new home," said Austin Donahoo, WR Upstate SC's Community Partnership Coordinator. "Through the upcoming Greenville Triumph match, we hope to celebrate the rich diversity and perspectives refugees bring to our communities and empower even more community members to walk alongside these families and individuals as they rebuild their lives in our state."
