Greenville Triumph SC News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club will launch a Unified Soccer Team, featuring a blend of players with intellectual disabilities and peer partners, the club announced on Tuesday. The team, created in partnership with Special Olympics South Carolina, will hold tryouts this fall, followed by a signing day and practices in advance of a match against a Unified Team from another USL League One club in the spring.
The team mirrors similar programs offered in other sports through the Special Olympics. Greenville joins Forward Madison and Union Omaha as the third League One club with a Unified Team program.
A coaching staff comprised of Triumph and Greenville Liberty coaches, as well as volunteers, will evaluate players during two tryout sessions in October ahead of a signing day later in the fall. Once the roster has been set, the team will hold eight training sessions in preparation for a match against a to-be-determined USL League One Unified Team in the spring.
Triumph SC also announced Champion Comfort Experts as a presenting partner for the Unified Team. The company, which offers plumbing, HVAC, and electrical repair services, will brand the Triumph Unified Team jerseys.
Tryouts will be held at the MeSA Soccer Complex the evenings of October 9th and October 16th. The club is currently accepting registrations for hopeful players and applications for volunteers on the Triumph website ahead of tryouts in October.
