
Greenville Acquires de Souza

GREENVILLE, S.C. (November 27, 2002) - The Greenville Groove has acquired center Luis Fernando de Souza, it was announced today by National Basketball Development League Executive Director Karl Hicks and Groove Head Coach Tree Rollins. Greenville also waived forward Eric Williams.
At 6-foot-11 and 255-pounds, de Souza has been playing professionally in Brazil, most recently for Uniara Fundesport where he averaged 10.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. The 24-year-old de Souza also played for Uberlandia, Gremio Londrina and Minas B. Horizonte, all in Brazil. A member of the Brazilian National Team, he was named the 2002 Brazilian Golden League Center of the Year.
Williams played in seven games for the Groove, averaging 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
de Souza is expected to arrive in Greenville today and will suit up for the Groove Friday when the Huntsville Flight visits the Bi-Lo Center at 2 p..m. He has been temporarily assigned jersey number 3.
