Greens Earn 5th Clean Sheet in 0-0 Draw with SKC
July 24, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
OKC Energy FC News Release
Three saves from CJ Cochran and a strong defensive effort help Energy FC to a scoreless draw against Sporting KC II Saturday night at Taft Stadium.
Jaime Chavez came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 28th minute when Sam Rogers' ball over the top of the SKC defense fell perfectly in stride for the striker, but SKC goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh did well to come off his line and close down the angle to make the save from 10 yards.
Though the defensive unit prevented most efforts from finding their way to CJ Cochran, the goalkeeper was called upon on a few occasions. His best save of the night came in the 35th minute when Jamil Roberts' low volley from a narrow angle was strongly palmed away before Conor Donovan headed to safety.
Aidan Daniels looked like he might be the one to open up the scoring with efforts from long range in the 45th and 51st minutes that tested McIntosh, but both times the goalkeeper was up to the task.
The draw moves Energy FC up to 18 points, remaining in 4th place in the Central Division. The top four teams from each division qualify for the playoffs.
Next up for Energy FC is a trip to Louisville on Saturday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Greens are back home Saturday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. against Memphis 901 FC. Tickets are available at energyfc.com/august7.
