EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (7-3-4) draws 1-1 to Austin Bold FC (5-3-5) on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
RGV FC earned the lead in the 9th minute after Rodrigo Lopez took a corner kick, connecting with Juan David Cabezas inside the box. Cabezas sent a powerful header to the back of the net scoring his first goal of the 2021 season, 1-0.
Austin equalized late in the 86th minute after Emilio Ycaza sent a cross inside the box connecting with Xavier Baez where he sent a strike past Tyler Deric 1-1.
The Toros kicked off the first half creating opportunities where Vicente Sanchez created the first dangerous attempt in the 6th minute after he sent a free kick shot inside the box forcing the Bold's line to deflect it out to a corner kick.
In the 10th minute Alasanne Ates Diouf threatened Deric after sending a close header over the bar. Nine minutes later, Owayne Omar Gordon sent a left footed strike forcing Deric to block it out to a corner kick. Three minutes later, Sean Okoli sent another dangerous shot, but Deric saved the attempt from going past him.
In the 29th minute, Austin struck again where Baez was left alone in front of the goal after failed attempts by other Bold members. Baez sent a shot, but Deric managed to close the angle and deflected the attempt out of play.
In the second half Stefano Pinho had a dangerous shot where he nearly missed the left post. In the 68th minute, Austin was able to send another shot but missed. Six minutes later, Lopez sent a shot following a free kick, but Austin's goalkeeper managed to get a touch to deflect out to corner. In the 79th minute, following another free kick, Juan Carlos Azocar sent a shot but missed to the right side.
Deric totaled three saves tonight, all in the first half. Lopez was able to create four opportunities while being able to tally a shot and one on goal. He totaled 76 passes and 99 touches tonight. Cabezas and Wan Kuzain each totaled two shots.
RGV FC totaled 11 shots and three on goal while Austin totaled 12 shots and four on goal. The Toros held 51.1% possession with an 83.5 passing accuracy rate.
