Clearwater Threshers News Release

Zach Green connected for his second home run in as many days, helping lift the Clearwater Threshers to a 7-4 win over the Brevard County Manatees in the second half opener at Space Coast Stadium.

Green's two-run shot on a liner out to left tied the ballgame at four in the fifth inning. The blast was Green's ninth of the season, giving him seven RBIs over his last two games.

Clearwater (40-29, 1-0) jumped out to an early lead, plating a pair in the opening half inning.

Carlos Tocci, Scott Kingery, and Mitch Walding all singled off starter Jon Perrin (1-5) to open the ballgame, and Green's ground ball to third pushed home Tocci with the first run of the night. With two down, Chace Numata singled to right to score Kingery and make it 2-0.

Brevard County (23-46, 0-1) responded and took the lead in the third. Blake Allemand singled home a run, and with two outs Elvis Rubio's infield hit combined with a throwing error on Walding at third permitted two to cross to put the Manatees ahead. Fidel Pena's homer in the fourth gave the Manatees a 4-2 edge.

Clearwater bounced back in the fifth and regained the lead for good. Walding worked a leadoff walk, and Green followed with a dinger to knot the ballgame at four apiece.

After Numata and Malquin Canelo each singled, Jiandido Tromp delivered a sacrifice fly to left to score Numata with the go-ahead.

An error on Brevard County centerfielder Omar Garcia gave the Threshers some insurance in the seventh as Canelo crossed the plate on the miscue, and Herlis Rodriguez tacked on a single to center to bump Clearwater ahead by three.

Yacksel Rios (1-2) earned the win, permitting four runs - two earned - on seven hits across six innings. Victor Arano picked up his second save with three hitless innings in relief, racking up a season-high six strikeouts.

Clearwater will go for the series win on Friday, with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. Elniery Garcia (6-2) takes the hill against Cody Ponce (0-1).
