Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The Green Bay Blizzard are set to host the Quad City Steamwheelers in their final home game of the season on Friday, June 9 at 7:05 p.m. CT.

Friday's matchup will be the second time in three weeks that the Eastern Conference rivals will face off. The Blizzard (5-5) lost a tight game to the Steamwheelers (7-3), 63-56 in Week 11.

A win this week would put Green Bay over .500 for the first time this season. The Blizzard enter the matchup coming off of a 43-17 road win against the Iowa Barnstormers. Green Bay's offensive attack was balanced. RB Terrence Smith rushed for three touchdowns and QB Max Meylor passed for one touchdown and added another on the ground. The Blizzard defense also stepped up big, giving up their fewest points of the season. DB Shawn Steele II had two interceptions and DL Deldrick Canty recorded a safety.

Green Bay's defense will have a significantly harder assignment this week. Quad City put up 63 points on the Blizzard in their Week 11 contest, scoring on every offensive possession. Green Bay's defense will have to find a way to contain Steamwheeler QB E.J. Hilliard. The reigning IFL Offensive Player of the Year put on a clinic in their last matchup, throwing three touchdowns and rushing for three more. The Steamwheelers are well-rested, coming off of a Week 12 bye.

Significant playoff implications are on the line this week. Green Bay still sits on the outside looking in of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Currently in fifth place, the Blizzard must make a run to be in the top four by the end of the regular season to make post-season play. Quad City currently sits in second place, just one game behind first-place Frisco.
