Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The 2007 home opener started with a celebration-of-sorts. It began the unveiling of the East Division and American Conference championship banners from the rafters above U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center. On hand to share in the ceremony were former head coach Bob Landsee and current Chicago Rush OL Rob Boss; both of whom played vital roles in last season's success. It ended in the same fashion as the Blizzard defeated their former division rival, the Manchester Wolves 35-32 in front of 6,404 fans.

The first score came less than three minutes into the game as Wolves QB Brian Zbydniewski hit WR Jarrail Jackson on a 15 yard touchdown strike. The Blizzard answered back after a long drive when WR Scott Burnoski snagged a touchdown pass from 7 yards out.

In the second quarter, Manchester scored first with a QB Zbydniewski 7 yard touchdown pass to FB Adam Fichter. The Blizzard's FB Antonio Ficklin brought Green Bay back within one with his 5 yard touchdown run. The teams traded scores one more time, and at the half, the Wolves led 20-19.

The third quarter brought the break the Blizzard needed. A missed field goal by K Dylan Pohlman gave Green Bay momentum on offense. QB Zeke Dixon lofted a 31 yard touchdown pass to WR Danny Donaldson for the first score. Dixon then marched his team downfield, and scored a rushing touchdown from 5 yards out to give the Blizzard a 32-20 lead.

Both teams traded possessions in the fourth, but Green Bay got on the board first when K Bob Forstrom hit a 50 yard field goal midway through the quarter. Manchester managed a late touchdown but it proved to be too late.

The win improved Green Bay's record to 1-1 and dropped Manchester to 0-2. The Blizzard head to upstate New York next Sunday to face the Albany Conquest with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 EST.
