
Green Bay Blizzard Re-Sign DB from 2013; Sign Rookies with NFL Experience

Green Bay, WI- The Green Bay Blizzard announced that the team has re-signed one player from 2013 and three new players for the 2014 season. The Blizzard have re-signed DB Lamar Allen from 2013. WR Nick Polk, DB James Ackel, and K Matt Mahowald, are also new additions to the team in 2014.
DB Lamar Allen (6'1, 180) re-joins the team in 2014 after playing in two games for the Blizzard last season. Allen tied the 2013 Blizzard single-game high vs Cedar Rapids on June 8th as he picked off two passes for 24 yards. Allen played two years at Evangel College, starting in 18 games. Allen recorded 55 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six pass breakups, five tackles for loss, and a touchdown in his career.
WR Nick Polk (6'0, 210) played college football for Indiana University, making 40 career starts being a dual threat at free safety for 31 games and 9 at wide receiver. Polk posted 179 tackles, six being for loss, five interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his three years on the defensive squad. He caught 33 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown in his only season as a receiver. Polk was an undrafted rookie picked up by the Houston Texans before being picked up off waivers by the Broncos. His last NFL season was spent in San Diego in 2011 before being put on injured reserve.
DB James Ackel (6'0, 215) played for Adams State University, and was a three-time First-Team All-RMAC defensive back selection and winner of the RMAC Defensive Freshman of the Year honor in 2009. He led the RMAC with 55 solo tackles from his free safety position during the 2012 senior season. Additionally, Ackel was a 2013 Indianapolis Colts Rookie Mini Camp invitee.
K Matt Mahowald (6'0, 215) comes to the Blizzard from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Mahowald played four years with the Banana Slugs, starting three of his four years as goal keeper.
The Blizzard open at home this Sunday, March 16. Kickoff is at 3:00 PM on Aurora BayCare Field.
